Let's play what would you do?
I work for the government so things are jobs are a little different here. After you apply on a job it can take anywhere from 6-26 weeks to start the position. My current company is moving 8 hours away next fall and we are not moving because of my husband's job. My DD is 1 yr old and we'd love another baby soon and I need a new car, my current car is 10 yrs old.
Option 1 - Stay in my current job, knowing if I don't find anything in the next 10 months I may be without a job and DD may be without her daycare (which is awesome). But, if I stay in my current position until we close, I will qualify for the next grade higher and have my MBA completed. There might be a little time off in between jobs but there are many chances to find a job with time...
Option 2 - Take another government job which is 2 grades lower (meaning a $12-20k decrease in salary) but it's a permanent job and DD can stay in daycare. It may take me 2 or more years to get back into my current grade and they will not let me finish my last 3 MBA classes as easily, I'd have to take them at night and pay for them myself.
So, what would you do?
Re: What would you do in this situation? NBR - job related
Option 1. and start applying now.
DH is a governement employee. When he was hired he applied to said job in November, Interviewed in January, was awarded the job in February but didn't start until JUNE.
Been applying on jobs for a while now, like 6 months...
