What's wrong with my baby today?

Okay, so J is only 12 days old, but so far he's been pretty predictable. Sleeps for 2-3 hour stretches during the day, has fussier periods at night. Last night was pretty good. Fed @ 9, slept 'till 12, fed and slept 'till 3. Was awake from 3-5, then slept 'till 8am.

Problem is, he's been awake since then. It's 1:30 pm here. I've tried everything, and haven't been able to get him down for more than 15-30mins all day. The couple of times he went down really well he ended up getting hiccups and waking himself back up. Took him for a car ride, he slept in the car but woke as soon aswe got back in the house. Swing calmed the crying, but he wouldn't fall asleep in it.

I'm ready to tear out my hair! He's fed, he's dry, he doesn't seem to be gassy, I haven't eaten anything strange. I have no idea what to do. I'm jiggling him in my left arm right now, he's got his paci, and he seems to be drifting off, but we did this half an hour ago and he woke as soon as I laid him down.

Any suggestions?

You may have to hold him while he sleeps, my DD won't sleep during the day without being held.

Whats the weather like where you are? We are getting into cooler temps here lately and the past 2 weeks we have had 2 pretty yucky, rainy, overcast days. Both days my normally content baby has not slept for more than 5 minutes unless I was holding her. Regardless, I say hold him so he sleeps, just figure that you will get nothing accomplished today and hope tomorrow is better.

OMG!! My daghter does all the same stuff you just said!! She sleeps ok at night but after feeding her it takes her sometimes an hour to fall back asleep! And during the day... forget it!! If I am not holding her she wont fall asleep!!!! I cant get anything done, no naps for me either!!! Kaylee is 3 weeks old yesterday and I am starting to think this is going to be an everyday thing... the no napping a lot during the day! She got up this morning around 7:30/8:00 and didnt fall asleep until around noon! I held her in my arms asleep for a good 15 minutes before putting her in her swing and so far so good, shes still asleep. I didnt put the swing on though, was afraid the swinging motion would wake her up. Maybe thats the trick!
