Good Morning, ladies! I know I have been MIA...I've been trying to learn my way around motherhood, and it has been a journey getting to know my precious baby girl! I really enjoyed reading birth stories, so I wanted to share Addie's birth story with y'all.
We checked into the hospital at 5:00 AM on Friday, October 8th. They took my blood work, started my IV started my Pitocin at 6:30. My doctor came in to break my water at 7:30. At the time I was dilated to 2 cms and was only about 50% effaced...not too much progress, but better than at my appointment on the Monday before.
I labored for a few hours while family arrived. Finally I asked for my epidural as the contractions were getting to be right on top of each other. They weren't more than I could handle, but it was getting hard to talk through them. I got my epidural around 10:30 and felt better immediately. They checked me at that time, though, but I had not progressed past 2 cm.
I started making slow but steady progress...from 2-4, then 5, then 6. Progress started to slow down at that point. They had my pitocin bumped up as high as my doctor would allow, but my contractions were inconsistant and weren't as strong as they needed to be. I got to 7 cms and he sat me up to try and get gravity working for me. Despite all of our efforts, my contractions were actually slowing down.
Around 9:30 my doctor checked me and I was stuck at 7. He recommended that we do a c-section because her head wasn't coming down and was starting to cone. He was concerned that she wasn't going to fit.
They topped off my epidural and they got me ready for the c-section. She was born at 10:28 PM weighing 8 pounds 5 ounces. She was 21 inches long, and her head was 13.5 inches around. Her daddy and I are so in love!
Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes. I am hoping to be around more since things are begginning to settle down a little bit.
