FF - DD took two bottle 1 hour apart

So, usually DD goes about 3 hours in between bottles (formula). Last night we fed her at 11, 1:45am, and then she was up fussing and cranky so I tried another bottle, and she downed another 4 oz at 3am. Is it possible this was a cluster feed or a growth spurt, or something of that nature? She went 5 hours this afternoon in between a feeding (which she NEVER does), so I wasn't sure if her body was making up for that. I'm fine giving her the extra bottle if she obviously needs it.?

Note that after the 3am bottle, she slept until 7am when I fed her next.?

  • Could be a growth spurt that's messing up her rhythm.  Also, it could be that she's making up for the missed feeding in the afternoon.  If it's a growth spurt, it'll last a few days, if it's just a one time thing, she'll go back to normal today.

I have always been told that you should feed them religiously during the day so that they won't look for the missed nutrients at night...

  • Thanks for the advice. Yeah, she never usually goes more than 3 hours, if that during the day. The 5 hour stretch was because we were out and I had her in her stroller and that completely passes her out. Hopefully today is better. I am going to try to keep her on more of her 3-4 hour timing and see if that makes a difference. Before last night, she was doing great during the night the past week. She would go her 3 hour stretches with ease and let us know when she was hungry. It was nice!  :)
  • My pedi told me to stick to a schedule during the day.  DS gets fed every 3 hours if he doesn't want to eat before then.

Do you feed at the same times every day, or simply every 3 hours?

  • Mine has been doing this too, two nights in a row.  Last night was better so I think whatever it was passed, but he was still up roughly every two-three hours.  Can't wait for STTN!

  • Before I even read your ticker, I guessed that your DD was about 3 weeks old. That is a huge time for a growth spurt. I would not try to feed her on a schedule and just go with it.
