When did you start using baby powder on bottom?

When did you start using baby powder on you baby's bottom?  How do I know when I need to use it?

Re: When did you start using baby powder on bottom?

  • We won't be using it.  There have been warnings out for years about how it can mess with LOs breathing. I thought it was a newer warning, but my mom said they warned about it when I was a baby.

  • We started using it on day one but that's because my grandma taught me how to diaper LO. Now I only use it when its really hot cause I notice he sticks to his diaper.

  • I only do it after his bath to make sure he's super dry.

You never NEED to use it, it's all personal preference.

  • I never used it on DS #1 and will not be using it with DS #2.  I have never had a reason to use it.  It is pretty unnecessary, really.

  • I think if you use powder, you are supposed to use ones that have cornstarch and not talc.  The talc is why you are not supposed to use it for babies.

  • Sometimes after the nightly bath.  We use talc free powder and are careful to keep it away from DS's face.

This ^.  Also, make sure you sprinkle it in your hand (away from the baby) then put it on them, that way the particles aren't flying in the air as much and they aren't inhaling it.  But really there is no reason to use it.

  • Never used it. Pedi said it's not necessary and harmful for baby's breathing.

  • Pedi warned us against using it. She said there was no benefit and it was harmful to baby's breathing.. So we stopped after the first week.
