What's your secret?!

I've been trying to put DS down drowsy for naps. He generally does ok for his morning nap but anything after is a struggle. He'll wake up either right away or after a few minutes. When he realizes I'm not holding him he wakes right up. I pick him up after finding he won't self sooth and try and get him to sleep again. Rarely he'll fall back asleep but often times he is wide awake, esp if I've done the pick up/put down a couple times. My back is ruined from holding him and I would love free hands. He has only fallen asleep in his swing twice.

Is anyone else's LO like this? Has anyone had luck changing this behavior? How long does the process take, in your experience, for the babe to "get it". I'm hoping someone has had some luck. I thought if he was that tired he would fall back asleep easier instead of being bright and alert. I've been waiting for his que's and not napping on a schedule.

TIA

Re: What's your secret?!

  • DD just started being able to nap by herself, but still isn't liking her crib (though she sleeps like a champ there at night). Right now, I hold her until she nods off and then I put her in the boppy with a blanket, so I guess it kinda feels more cozy. This is my first step toward trying the crib again in a week or so.
