Babies: 0 - 3 Months

DD has "crazy arms"!

DD, when awake and calm, starts moving her arms.. it eventually leads to a full on flailing motion and she becomes so upset!

I can't swaddle her all day long, but she gets so worked up when this happens!

anyone else??

Re: DD has "crazy arms"!

  • My babies have pretty much been swaddled until 3-4 months.  That's usually when the arms stop flailing and they are happier when not so snug.

  • Lucas had some serious crazy arms, I posted about them a few times because they really freaked me out. He's 11 weeks now and while he'll still moves them around the movement isn't NEARLY as jerky.

  • My DS flails his arms and legs A LOT! He can hold up his head for several seconds (and turn it side to side when resting on my shoulder) and roll on his side at only 2 weeks old! I only swaddle him at night though and he usually busts out and has his arms up above his head to sleep. I also worry about his constant flailing!

This sounds like my little man exactly

  • This is only a problem with Abby when she's eating. She inadvertently stiff-arms me and gets so upset! She won't eat in the swaddle, though, so I just have to deal.

  • Both my boys need to be swaddled, they are slowly starting to gain more control over their arms but the swaddle works like a charm

swaddling all day? or just during sleep?

My LO usually starts flailing her arms while she is awake... its not too much of a problem while sleeping. I do half-swaddle at night (she broke out of her swaddle so much i just gave up on the full swaddle lol)

I leave them un-swaddled after they eat until they get really fussy cause they are so tired.. the only way they will take a good nap is if they are swaddled.  During the day I just use blankets to swaddle them, at night we use the swaddle me blanket and then another blanket around that (warm babies sleep better, at least thats what Im told)

  • DS has very crazy arms! They are all over the place. Usually it doesn't both him until it is time to sleep. He hates having his arms confined in a swaddle so he tends to fall asleep with us holding him close to our bodies so his crazy arms don't startle him.
