Was your GD diet or insulin controlled? When did you deliver and how big was your baby? My doc diagnosed me after a high 1hr glucose and I have been testing ever since, however numbers have been good. High only once in awhile, so I guess I'm considered "diet-controlled" GD, although I feel as if I may have been misdiagnosed.
Anyway, doc has not done any recent growth u/s b/c of numbers being good. At 18wks LO was in 75%. B/c of the GD doc still recommends that we do an induction next Fri (@ 40w 1d) if I don't go into labor by then. She did go ahead and schedule it for us, but said we can ask to push it further back if we'd like... I believe I am a fairly good induction candidate as I have been 80%+ effaced for several weeks and am currently at 2-3cm. Still, I know letting it happen naturally is better for me and LO, also that inductions often result in emergency c-sections......a hard decision to make!!
Re: For you former GD mommies...making an induction decision...
Have they done another growth ultrasound to check on LO weight?
I had GD and was just diet controlled... i think i had a very mild case.
I ended up being induced at 38 weeks b/c lo was actually measuring small 5lbs 3 oz. I had a successful really quick induction and was only 2 cm and 80% going into it. I had cervadil for 12 hrs then was only on pitocin for 2 hrs before LO arrived.
I'll give you my story. I was dx with GD and was diet controlled. My MW wouldn't let me go past 41 weeks, though, due to the higher probability of placenta breakdown with GD. I went in for NSTs once a week from 36 weeks on.
I was induced at 41 weeks. My MW knew I wanted as natural a birth as possible. She did two rounds of cervadil 6 hours apart and that got me into active labor. I delivered with no pain meds 13 hours later. My LO was 8lbs8oz and 21.75 inches. So, most of his weight was in his length, not chub. Oh...and I was 2.5 cm and 70% effaced at the start of the induction.
I would say talk to your doctor and see what options you really have. Would he/she be into doing more rounds of cervadil rather than start the pitocin after one round?
insulin controlled from month 5 on.
I delivered at 40 weeks, 2 days
baby was 7 lbs 3 oz
I was inducted drug free. If your nervous about c-section this is a good way to go. The doc will break your water and forgo pitocin as long as you progress- it worked for me!
I don't know your whole situation so I won't give my opinion, instead I'll say this- "You are already a mom and you know what is best for your child already, trust your gut-- wherever it leads you is the right answer for you and baby!"
