My arms are falling asleep!

So I've been sleeping on my side since about 12weeks - I alternate at night between my left and my right...recently my hips started hurting (which I've read on the boards about other ladies talk about)...but for this past week my arms/hands are falling asleep...I wake up at least 3x a night to get circulation back in them - is this normal ? I'm scared that I might have bad circulation! I see my doctor on Tuesday so I'll ask her then... I don't know what else to do other than sleep on my back ....ugh!

Re: My arms are falling asleep!

  • The snoogle/body pillow thing has really helped me with the lower back and hip pain. I do find that i lose circulation in my arms occassionally while sleeping on my side. Usually i just try to adjust the arm positioning when i wake up and notice this is the case. Can't hurt to bring it up to your doctor, but i doubt its anything really serious.

  • I wake up like this all the time. Think about it, you are compressing the nerves in your arms for most of the night so while annoying it's probably not anything to be concerned about.
  • Ug, this happens to me all the time. I'm going to try sleeping on my side with my arm behind me tonight, it's a little weird but my Bradley class recommends it so I'll give it a shot.
  • Ugh...this has been happening to me for a little over a week now! So annoying! Doesn't seem to matter if it's back or side sleeping... :o(

  • My arms fell asleep all the time with DS.  It just kept getting worse until I gave birth, when sleeping, driving, talking on the phone, and then I was fine a few weeks after I delivered.  It actually was a precursor to carpel tunnel for me, which also went away after giving birth.  It started happening this time as well, and although I have no idea if the 2 are related, I sure hope that the carpel tunnel doesn't happen this time!
  • Ahh yes, this has been happening to me as well, for probably about 2 weeks now. It's mostly my right hand/arm and it happens day and night. I asked my midwife last week and she basically said it happens, it's pregnancy related and if it gets too bad we can try wrist braces at night or physical therapy. We would only do the physical therapy if it began to affect my daily life, such as not able to grip or acute pain. My grip is pretty weak first thing in the am, but if I run my hands under warm water it helps some. I have talked with several other people who have had this  happen to them as well. Apparently it goes away after birth, I can't wait! This is probably my most annoying symptom yet.
