We took DS's away around 20-22 months. I wish I would have done it around 15 months because at that point he wasn't super attached. After 15 months he had a name for it and talked about it all the time. If DD ends up taking a binky I will take it away around a year-15 months. I ended up cutting a slit in it, he sucked it and realized it was broken and we just threw them away. It took a few days and he forgot about it. Now with his sister he never has even tried to use her's.
Almost 2.5. My daughter only slept with it (past 9 months or so), it never left her room. It helped her sleep and we were fine with that. The paci fairy came, took her paci for the babies that needed them, and left her a bag of small gifts. She asked for it a few times after that, but we never had a problem.
We really only use it for nap time and bed time and during the day I hold her and give her the snoedel doll (amazing thing btw) so I was thinking, is 6 months too young to try and take it away? She fusses at night for it and I want to stop getting up to give it to her.

We had to take DS's away at 8 months. It started out great, but at night it became a total nightmare for us. As soon as the binky fell out of his mouth he would wake up screaming. Needless to say, he wasn't getting any sleep and neither were we. We decided to chuck it and it only cost us a few extra days of misery and then it was forgotten.
That's what worries me. Did you let your DS just cry it out those few nights after you got rid of it? After he started sleeping without it, did you rock him to sleep or jut put him down and let him fall asleep on his own? What about during the day and nap time?

I took my sons away at 6 months. Im not big on the paci's with older kids..just a pet peeve of mine. DS had loved to hold his in his hand while he slept, so one night around 6 months i went in and replaced it with a toy cow that sings, off his bouncy seat which also had a handle on it shaped like a paci handle. worked perfect..but he still sleeps with the cow The cow is sacred in our house haha.

Well, this also caused a little grief in our house.. My husband wanted him to cry it out because he was old enough, but I couldn't do it (at the time). I would rock him to sleep at night. I started on a Thursay night because I work full time and I knew it would take a couple days. I didn't want to show up to work fried. It was rough and you feel bad for them, but it does pass. If they are losing sleep over it it's not worth it (IMO) to keep it. Good Luck!
DS literally lost his last one like a month after he turned 2 (we had started preparing him that day that we were going to be getting rid of the paci in a few weeks and then for bed couldn't find it). He woke up and cried for it 2 nights then it was over. For DD we took it on her 2nd bday and told her the paci fairy was taking it to other babies. Neither one of them remember ever having the paci and laugh when they see pictures of it in their mouth. DD also had 1 or 2 nights but it wasn't bad. As for putting the paci in their mouth at night - both slept in our bed for the first few months so I was right there to put it back in and when they were in their own bed it wasn't long before they were able to find it and put it back in their mouth (we would leave a few in the bed in hopes they would find one easily). DD2 isn't taking to the paci as well as her siblings though.
