Baby shower games??

I didn't think I'd be asking this but it turns out my church is throwing a baby shower for 4 of us. My mom said she would help & is now in charge of games. She is completely clueless & could use some help.

She wants to do a guess the ammount of _____in the jar. We are thinking hersheys kisses.

I suggested bingo but we don't know how many people will be there, maybe 60+ we don't have time to make up and print 60+ different cards.

She also needs prize ideas. I didn't do games at my shower with DD (I'm not a real fan) I'm kinda clueless too.

Re: Baby shower games??

  • You could do "guess the amount of" : safety pins, clothes pins, outlet covers... depending on the size of the jars.

I always like the showers where there are stations to decorate diapers with markers, stickers, etc.  It gives me something to do while socializing, especially if I don't know a lot of people there- it gives something to do and talk about.  I have seen this with onsies, but that can get expensive if it's a group shower for lots of people.

I also enjoy bingo-  there are actually websites that will generate bingo cards for you...

Traditional games include:  guess the babyfood flavor, guess the melted candy bar in the diaper, "don't say baby" clothespin game...

  • At my best friend's shower, all the tables had a ball of yarn and a pair of scissors on them. All the guests had to cut a length of yarn equal to what they thought the mom-to-be's belly circumference was. They then measured how her belly with their piece of yarn. Whoever at each table came closest, got to keep the center piece.

That was kind of cute, except my friend said she's going to get me back at my shower because I WAY over guessed. Lucky for me, my Mom isn't planning any games. ;)

  • I recently went to a friends baby shower and they had a game that i had never seen or heard of before.  They took ice cube trays and filled them and then put little babies in each cube and froze them.  Then the day of the shower everyone got a little cup with a cube in it.  The first person whose cube melted and their baby was swimming had to yell "My water broke!!".  I thought it was fun.

  • we're doing at my shower the following:

    Baby Bingo

Present Timer - where if you and the other woman are opening gifts at the shower, set a timer for 15 minutes or so and whomevers present you are opening at that time wins a little prize

Baby Word Scramble - i think my mom said there are websites out there that do it for you

Baby Price is Right - buy a bunch of baby things (diapers, wipes, bottles, lotions, ect) and have people guess the price of each item (with out going over!) and then the total amount and the winner of each item wins a little prize and the total amount winner could get a bigger prize.

Prize ideas: my mom is always a fan of lotto tickets, or you can do lotions or candies, ect.

  • For my sister's shower, we did the BINGO cards. All I did was make a BINGO template and printed that on cardstock. It was blank that way the guests fill in the blanks with what they think the gifts are. It's easier than printing out 60 different ones.

We also set a timer for 10 minutes, and the person that gave the gift she was opening when the timer went off got a prize.

My sister also said a number from 1-30 (depending on the number of people at the shower), and the person who's name was in the guestbook next to that number got a prize.

For prizes, we gave out Christmas decorations (snowman utensil holders, decorative kitchen towels, etc) since her shower was before Christmas last year. Maybe you can do some fall decorations, candles, bath lotions, etc.

  • At my shower we had all the guests bring a baby photo of themselves and everyone wore name tags to get to know eachother and guests would try to guess who's baby photo was whos - they were numbered and put up on a board. That might not work with 60+ people though.

The other game we played was a Price Is Right type game where they had a box of baby supplies (diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bum cream etc) and my friend layed it all out and people had to guess the total cost of all the items.

We just played those two games, so for prizes they each got a box of chocolates.

  • I'm not a huge fan of games, but at my shower we're doing onesie decorating and at the end I'll pick my favorite and whoever decorated it won that prize, and we're also playing the "don't say baby" game.. where you can use safety pins or whatever and when someone catches someone else saying the word "baby" they get to take their pin.  I like both of these because they're more ongoing, where people can mingle and talk during the game instead of have to focus on something silly like unscrambling words or whatever.  for prizes I think it'll just be starbucks giftcards because even in a small amount, who wouldn't want one of those??!

  • We played a game where there was a list of attributes, like eye color, hair color, temperament, intelligence or memory, etc. And I had to say whether I wanted them to get that attribute from me or DH. And everyone had to guess what I said. We use hair care products as prizes, like shampoo and conditioner sets from the salon or salon hair styling products. But my mom works at JCP so she gets a discount on stuff like that :). So it's a nice prize but not as expensive as it seems.

  • At my family shower, we did the guess the belly size game that PP mentioned.

My sister did another game that I had never heard before.  Every guest had to put a paper plate on top of their head and draw a baby on the plate.  Whomever I thought had the best-looking baby drawing won.  It was a lot of fun!

Then we also did the purse game, but the twist was we spelled out LO's name.  So they had to find something that started with a "C", etc.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • At a shower I threw last year we did "how many skittles are in the baby bottle."  I just bought the cheapest 3pack of colorful bottles at Target to use but you could get some that you would actually use after.  I also used these as balloon tie downs for the centerpieces on the tables.  If you wanted a specific color you could use the color divided m&m's.

A game we did at my shower last week was a pregnancy mad lib.  This was fun and their doesn't have to be a winner.  If you have a big group (sounds like you do) you could split up into teams to do them and then each group reads them aloud.

Some prizes you can do are $5 Starbucks card, candles, bath stuff, little plant/flowers, etc.
