Eczema

I had to take Mari BACK to the friggin pedi again yesterday because she had a patch of something (which I swore was ringworm) on her upperarm.

Doc says it's round eczema.

What's worked for you?  Doc said some aquaphor should do it, but I know from experience, it doesn't really do much.

Also, fatso is a whopping 19.5 lbs!!!!  Indifferent

Re: Eczema

  • DH battled eczema from infancy to today.  A few years ago we got him started again on the prescription cream, Triamcinolone Acetonide.  Its the only thing that works long term for him and his Mom said its the same stuff the pedi prescribed him when he was little.  The derm had said cetaphil was also good to use on the spots where it seemed to pop up most often.

  • Okay girlie!! I have had Eczema my whole life, and Gianna has a little bit here and there....Of course there are tons of prescription drugs you can use, but not on Mari...My eczema was always worse when I lived in NY because of the weather.....I use cetaphil now and it works great, but I do not use that on G...I found something that works incredible on G it is called "Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing cream" It has a blue top....Anyway, this works wonders....I apply it everyday to the affected area morning and than again after her bath...I also stopped using Johnson and Johnson bath products and use only Aveeno.....Trust me girl this stuff works...They sell it at Target!!! HTH....
  • Poor Mari!  I had eczema when I was an infant until the time I was about 5.  I'm not sure what my parents used, sorry not much help, but it did go away and I will maybe once a year (usually winter) get a small dry patch on my arm now.  I hope it clears up on her soon.
  • When we came back from Hawaii Caroline had a round spot on her tummy that I was convinced was ringworm so I took her to the pedi for that.  He said it was eczema.  I think the doc gave me me a tiny tube of hydrocortisone cream that we used for a little while and then we just used lotion.  I liked using the Cetaphil cream on her or the California Baby stuff that comes in a little pot.

He said it was because of the dry climate.  It was really dry in California at the time.  We just kept her lotioned up and it hasn't come back.

Thanks Mel - I read your reply yesterday when I just happened to be running to Target!!  I got the blue top Aveeno - I love it already! SO much thicker than the baby lotion I was using.  I also got an organic Shea bath with frankincense and myrrh in it - it looks/smells/claims to be super gentle, so I'm hoping the  combination of the two work!

Is it the light blue top?

  • Try Vanicream or Cetaphil.  If creams and lotions aren't enough for your LO, try Halo Technical Comfort clothing.  It reduces itching and irritation caused by eczema and sensitive skin and wicks away moisture.
