Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Why so serious?

Do you have a serious baby?  My little guy likes to furrow his brow a lot and observe and he only smiles in his sleep (which i know isnt a real smile yet). Tho he does love to lay on me and be held. Its probably way to early to think about this but i jus wonder if anyone else's baby is like this at this stage.

Re: Why so serious?

  • Our daughter makes very serious faces as well, with the little brow thing and she also purses her lips. I think it's so cute. I wouldn't worry though. My daughter is just starting to show signs of wanting to smile at us for real. I'll blow a raspberry on her neck and I can tell she gets excited, but can't quite get that smile out yet.

  • The furrowed brow is supposedly a sign he's just taking in the environment and is really interested in what's going on around him. The smiles in sleep mean he'll be smiling awake really soon, just give him a few weeks and you'll see that happy side coming out; and researchers are now saying babies do smile for real at this age, it's not just gas!

    Good to know!

DS makes the furrowed brow all the time. He is starting to make more happy, not so serious faces and sleep smiling. If I talk to him while he is drowsy, half sleeping he smiles :) I can't wait until he smiles while awake.

  • Yes!! Kaylee makes very concerned faces... she has since being born! Literally, she was looking around with a furrowed brow the first time I held her lol! But for the most part, she is pretty laid back and- I would assume-happy!
