HELP! I'm an Etsy Virgin!!

Can someone help me out here - You guys all talk so much about Etsy and their cute stuff. I check it out from time to time but get SOOOO overwhelmed! There is so much on there, tons of different sellers, how do you know what you are getting? Do you just keep paging through their tens of thousands of one particular item and just order what you like? Or are there sellers that you'll buy your things from exclusively?

Any tips are appreciated! TIA

Re: HELP! I'm an Etsy Virgin!!

  • I've mostly used it for our nursery items. I looked through hundreds of pages of just baby crap until I found a fabric I liked and it snowballed from their. I ordered two blankets, four sets of sheets, a bed skirt, a window valance, shelves, a clock, figurines, pillows for the rocker, paper flowers, a mobile, wall decals, a changing pad cover and I'm sure I'm missing something, but you get the idea. Once you have an idea of what you want something to look like the site is like crack. You'll need a 12 step program by the time your LO comes.

LOL maybe then I should remain an Etsy virgin so I don't know what I'm missing!  I can't believe you found THAT much stuff on there...that's awesome!!
  • Oh, I found more. I haven't even begun to buy clothes. There are some seriously cute things on there. There is also a search function so if you wanted something like "Pink Onsie" you'd get all kinds of stuff to pop up. Within each category there are sub categories that are also helpful in narrowing down your searches.
  • Before I buy something I typically check the seller's feedback to make sure that they ship quickly and that people are happy with what they get.  I have bought all kinds of things from jewlery like this:  That I love!!!

for a friend of mine's b-day to holiday signs for house decor to tutu's for my cousin's babies and I just bought a bumper on there.

I try and do more specific searches instead of just say "baby clothes" I might say "baby boy sweaters" or denim bumpers.

Good idea - would never have thought of that. I typically am NOT an internet shopper so the obvious is not so obvious to me. Thanks.
  • Definitely check the shipping and time policies before buying anything too.

Searching can be hard and overwhelming.

I need to stay away. I just bought this https://www.etsy.com/listing/58944957/fall-sale-10-dollars-newborn-hat-baby and I don't even know if we're having a boy or a girl but it was too cute to pass up for newborn pictures if we have a girl.

  • I have a nasty, nasty etsy addiction.  It's really bad.  The worst is when I buy things that I COULD MAKE MYSELF.  Like adorable little crocheted baby hats.  It's not like I don't have two huge bins of yarn - and still, I buy from other people.
