For the past few weeks I have been having headaches and dizzyness. Its been getting progressively worse. Yesterday I went home from work with a splitting headache and nausea. I feel lightheaded and the room spins occasionally. I think I have been having Braxton HIcks too. I also have very dark urine and the OB told me a few weeks ago I wasnt drinking enough water.
Today I am off work again and my head is killing me. I googled dehydration and it lists these symptoms, and puts me at risk for pre-term labour.
It is so hard to drink water - my stomach is squished so it doesnt fit much and its hurts when I drink too much. Last night I managed to drink 2 1/2 litres of water (which I thought would help) but I still feel horrible.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
Re: Pretty sure I'm seriously dehydrated
I was having a hard time getting enough water, so I got one of those sport bottles that holds 32 oz. I fill it up before I leave the house in the morning and leave it - open- right next to me on my desk, so every time I turn around I see it and automatically reach for it. That way I'm taking sips of water pretty regularly. I did this for a few days and now I'm up to drinking 2 of them every day at work. Point being, you don't have to drink it all at once or guzzle it to get enough, just give yourself a couple of swallows regularly and you'll get there.
Good luck!
i would call the dr and explain everything!
i got food poisioning and thought i could keep enough fluids down but i was wrong, over a day in labor and delivery, with potassium and fluids
baby will take what they need and that can still leave you very low no matter how much you try to gain it back,
call your dr and dont feel bad about going to hospital
For sure call your doctor, like so many posts said- you may need to go to L+D to get IV fluids.
And crushed ice is way easier for me when I can't seem to get much water down. I got really dehydrated after a bad stomach virus two years ago, I made gatorade slushies, and that helped a ton.
You said that you drank a bunch of water last night so I'm assuming you drank much less and then tried to make up for it at night? Sorry if I'm wrong. So, basically, you may have been dehydrated all day and then kind of on water overload after that, which wouldn't have fixed the problem since you need to be thoroughly hydrated all the time to prevent all the other problems you're having.
I definitely think you need to work on taking small swigs of water very frequently instead of lots at one time. I know it's hard at first but the more water you drink, the more you will be able to fit in your stomach.
Fill up a big bottle and tell yourself to take a big swig or two every five minutes or so with the goal of finishing it in 4 hours or whatever.
I know it's tough. I'm a teacher and run around all day long without many breaks to drink or use the restroom but you just have to force yourself. Your LO needs that amniotic fluid and your kidneys need the water to process all of your waste and LO's.
Good luck!
I fill plastic water bottles about 1/2 way and then freeze them & in the morning I can fill them the rest of the way with water at home. Then I do as the PP, I leave the bottles sit on my desk all day & it hits me everytime I look at my monitor to take a drink. I can now get through about 6-8 20 ounce bottles in the 9 hours I am at the office.
Good luck - but call your doctor!
