just got back from the dr with our almost 8 wk old bc of a small pea-sized lump behind his ear. the dr said it was a swollen lymph node and he may be fighting some little germ. she asked if he had a fever or anything which he hasn't and said if it gets bigger or starts to cause him pain we have to go back right away. i was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing, i was feeling pretty good about the visit but after talking to my mom and husband i'm kind of nervous again. mom had me check all his other nodes (which seem fine) and husband first asked if it could be lymphoma?!? now i'm second guessing the dr and myself bc our little man has had no sign of being sick. is it possible for him to fight a germ that didn't display any symptoms?
Re: swollen lymph nodes
Yes, when my 13 year old DD was about 4 month one night i was just rubbing her little head and found a few lumps on the back of her neck and behind her ears, took her to the dr. the next morning, i was going crazy by then, they checked her and she did had her lymph nodes swolen after the dr check her really good we found a couple of mosquitos bites in her forehead by the hair line that i didnt see, well we come to find out she is allergic to mosquitos bites, and thats why her was swollen. Not saying is the same thing with you LO but mention it to your Dr. to see what they say. She is fine but everytime she gets a bite it gets pretty swollen and red and hot.
My DS has had several swollen lymph nodes in the back of his head/neck since he was just 3 weeks old. They are still there. No symptoms. The pedi says that anything that has to do with his scalp - cradle cap, bumps, etc. can cause those lymph nodes to swell.
I was SO worried at first, but I am not so worried anymore. The pedi also checked his white blood cell count to make sure everything looked good and it did. He said if something were wrong then he would be really sick, and DS has had some small scalp issues so I'm pretty sure pedi is right.
