Feeling sucking movements...

So just today I realized I was feeling my baby move in a different way than usual. I paid close attention to it and the only thing I can think of is she's sucking her hand/thumb and her arm/head was positioned in the perfect position to where I could feel the rhythmic movements of her sucking.

It continued for a while, and I just enjoyed it so much. I can't wait to hold her!

I am visiting my brother and SIL right now and they have a 2 week old baby girl. I have loved loving on her and imagining that SOON, I get to be loving on my own little girl.

Has anyone else felt these "sucking movements"?

Re: Feeling sucking movements...

  • Hmm, could it maybe be hiccups? I know when Lawson gets them I always feel a little rhythmic 'thump' in the same spot until he stops :-)

  • I've felt that but just assumed it was hiccups. I guess it could be sucking if LO is positioned right!

    I am guessing this, too.

     Are you home yet, Juliet?

  • I was thinking hiccups too. That would be some pretty vigorous sucking to feel that strongly.

  • I feel her hiccups. And it's sort of similar, both the hiccups and this other feeling (sucking??) feel softer than her normal movements/kicks. But her hiccups I can tell because of how quick and close they are. The other feeling is a lot quicker and it will go for several moments and then stop, then pick back up again. The hiccups are more spread out and not as many. Hard to explain! But I only felt it today so it might have just been a one time thing.

I know exactly what you mean b/c I've had this feeling once a day for the past 3 days. It's a faster movement than hiccups- more like a throbbing & for me, it's down really low. They've lasted about 3 minutes at a time. If only we had x-ray vision to see what the heck was going on in there!

  • I had that feeling last night and didn't know what it was. I thought hiccups but they were quick and close by so I was sure it wasn't hiccups now I know she was sucking on her finger, how funny..didn't think of it
