T's and P's for great gma please

My great gma has congestive heart failure and has been getting progressively worse. She has been in the nursing home for a couple months now and today was not doing very well. she is very unresponsive and weak.

I feel horrible that i have not been able to see her for over a week now and cant until next week because DD has strep and bronchitis and we cant afford to let gma or anyone else ther get sick.

I'm so afraid that she will pass before DD and I get another chance to visit her.

And I'm extremely afraid of how I tell DD that she has passed when she does..

Anyone had this happen?? DD is 4. I really hope that she at least makes to meet LO in December. That is one of the only things that she really does remember these days.

My DH's grandmother is in the same boat. I feel bad I haven't seen her in a month or 2. She keeps going from the hospital to nursing home to home & then back. Last time she was home I had a cold & didn't want to give it to her. DH doesn't want me going to the nursing home because he's an EMT and knows all the sickness that lingers there. I hope she gets to meet her latest great grand daughter, but I really hope we don't have to attend a winter funeral either. Good luck to you and your family.

I'm so sorry to hear about your great grandma.  I really hope she gets better in time for you and your DD to visit.  I don't have much advice as I don't have any children yet, but from everything I've read, children understand more than we typically think and trying to explain to her what's going on is the best idea.  Good luck!
