Choroid Plexus Cysts...Experiences anyone?

Hello Everyone,

I just recently found out that there were some choroid plexus cysts  detected on my baby's ultrasound, my ob said I shouldn't worry, but I can't help it.

Did any of you ladies experience this throughout your pregnancies? Would you mind sharing your experiences?

    Hey!

I was just about to head out from work and I saw your post. I frequently check the 2nd Tri boards just in case a post like this pops up and I can be of some help.

Anyways, DS had a CPC on his brain in his anatomy scan U/S. They said not to worry because DS didn't have any other markers and he would be perfectly fine. Well, I googled. And, I freaked myself out. In the back of my mind I was afraid my entire pregnancy, although I just tried to give it to God and not worry about it.

DS was born PERFECTLY healthy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him.

And, FWIW, I read somewhere that a lot of doctors won't even tell patients about it anymore because it just isn't cause for concern when they are found by themselves.

Anyways, my doctor did and I wish he didn't!

    GL!

I had the exact same experience with my daughter.  CPC's on the Level I ultrasound at 19 weeks, OB said don't worry but I freaked out.  We went in for a Level II ultrasound at 22 weeks and they were gone.  She was born 2 weeks ago perfectly healthy.  If there are no other markers then I wouldn't worry, I know it's hard though.

  • Ditto PP. My little girl had 2 at her anatomy u/s and I freaked, just like you are! My doctor reassured me, even told me her little boy had them and was fine, but as a first-timer I couldn't help but worry. We did u/s every 4 weeks and I just looked forward to those to see if they had gotten smaller. At 24 weeks, they were smaller, at 28 weeks, 1 was gone, and by 32 weeks they were both gone. But, my doc did say that even if they stayed the whole time it didn't mean that anything was wrong because she had no other markers. DD is absolutely perfect. My SIL reassured me that her first had them too and was fine.

They are very common, so try to remember that at this time! If you get repeat u/s, just look at it as more chances to see LO before he/she arrives!

  • My DD also had choroid plexus cysts detected at her 18 week scan.  It was over 3 cm, which is larger than they like to see.  There was nothing else that pointed to abnormalities, but they wanted to make sure everything was fine.  We had an ultrasound a week later and it was already smaller, and then the following week it was even smaller.  We went to a perinatologist and they did a 1 hour ultrasound and we met with a genetic counselor.  They recommended having tests done to check for genetic abnormalities which we declined.  To us it wasn't something that would change our mind about having and loving this baby, so we decided to just pray and think positively instead.  They didn't really ease any fears we had because nobody would give us the "She'll be fine" that we wanted to hear.  They have to cover themselves in case it isn't the case I guess, but it is more often than not nothing to worry about.  Our baby girl is perfectly fine, and by 28 weeks the cyst was no longer showing.  The ultrasound tech that originally did our ultrasound said that she read an article one time that thought a study should be done on the outcome of these situations because they thought it might lead to a higher than average inteligence.  I don't know about that, but it was a fun little thing to think about in between worrying.  Good luck and try not to worry too much!

  • Ugh I remember that freaked out feeling!! DD's was found at 18 weeks and gone by the level II scan at 22 weeks. From what I remember even if it doesn't go away, it's not a big deal as long as there are no other markers. GL!

  • We experienced the same thing at DS 18 week ultrasound.  They did not detect any other markers but did a repeat ultrasound at 22 weeks and they were all gone.  I was a complete wreck but refused to google it.  The doctor said that they are very common and as long as no other markers are detected it shouldn't be an issue.  When I started asking people about CPC's, I found out that both my cousins had them along with some coworkers children and they are all healthy.  DS was born 18 days ago and he is a healthy and happy little boy.  I know it is hard, but stay positive (this was very hard for me and it was a long 4 weeks waiting to see the ultrasound).
