Getting through the day...

I'm feeling a real lack of motivation to do work. As an English teacher, I have a ton of paperwork to do, plus lesson plans to create. Any tips for getting through the work day with a modicum of work done by the end?

What have you been doing to make yourself concentrate on something other than baby?

Re: Getting through the day...

  • it's hard and I don't have too much work that involves a lot of mental concentration..  but when I need to buckle down and deal with bills, for example,  I make myself a cup of coffee with extra cream and sugar and something not too messy to snack on.. sit my but down at the kitchen table, usually light a candle so it smells extra good in there.. and get down to biznass.

the kitchen table.. especially since H left I don't eat there anymore.. has become my "concentration space"  maybe you could find yourself a little corner you haven't used in a while.. sit on the porch if it's not too cold/hot/windy.. I dunno but I think finding a new space and designating it for that might help a little?

  • Ha! Anyone who answers this post is clearly not working, but bumping! However, when I need an extra boost, I turn off my computer monitor, treat myself to a pop from the machine in the teacher's lounge, and remind myself that if I don't get it done today, I have to do it from home or over the weekend. :(

  • Here's what works for me:

I put cookies in the oven and get as much done as possible before the timer goes off. I don't recommend this for everyone though lol

  • I'm trying to identify something that I will get out of whatever work it is I'm supposed to be doing and focus on that.  I have some things to do today that will make my life WAY easier in the next few months and into the New Year so that's my motivation.  I also limit myself to X minutes of Bumping followed by completing something which helps. Bumping and doing baby stuff is my 'reward' for accomplishing work things.  I work from home so I have to be disciplined or I'd get nothing done.

  • I must make a to do list for the next day every day, or else I end up scatter brained and get nothing done.

I don't have one for today...so...this will not end well. :o

  • As a teacher....I know the work can pile up!  Lesson plans, papers to grade, IEPs that require modified work, photo copies....  I try to keep myself on a schedule.  For instance, I make myself have next week's plans, done by wednesday.  I make all of my copies during my planning time on thurs/fri.  I try to show at least one brainpop, discovery streaming or video per week to catch up on grading.  I use my study halls to add grades into the online gradebook!?!?  I really try to stick to a routine.  I would go crazy if all piled up!
