I'm sitting here watching both of my boys (nearly 4 and 3 yrs) color and I'm still not clear which hand they favor. They both switch back and forth often.
My boys just turned 4 in September. Ever since a very young age, we have suspected Dillon was left handed and we still do. He switches and uses both hands, but he favors left a ton. Ryan never favors his left and I have never even considered he may be left handed.
Dillon also kicks with his left foot (soccer)....that makes me think he is left handed, too.
dd is 4 1/2 and still uses both regularly, but we think she uses the left more. she'll write letters with both, but more often than not, she'll start with the left hand.
My DD was going to be right handed regardless because when it came time to write I was going to make sure she wrote with her right hand.
Curious. Why is that?
My DD is nearly 4 and I think she is leaning towards righty, but still not sure, she switches a lot still. DS is 2.5 y/o and I have no idea.

My older DD is a lefty and has always favored her left hand. DD#2 - I would say righty but she still does use her left hand to color sometimes but uses her right one way more.

I suspected pretty early--like around 1.5yrs old. My DD#1 is right handed, DD#2 is left handed & from observation I would say DD#3 is gonna be left handed. Weird considering no one is a leftie in either of our families but I seriously think I "should be" but my Mom forced me to write w/ my right. I saw her do this w/ my adopted brother & she suggested doing it for DD#2.
Re: Right handed or left handed, when did you know?
DS has always been very right-handed when it comes to eating, coloring, throwing, etc. He's been that way from the start.
OTOH, I thought for sure DD would be left-handed, but she switches back and forth now.
My pedi said that handed-ness is not clearly defined until age 5 or 6. Until then to not worry about which hand they decide to use.
