I know a lot of people have posted about Econobum, whether it's a good buy or not... But a lot of people don't actually buy them or use them to know! So here's my thought...:
We use prefolds and BG 3.0's, but usually we are using infant prefolds with a Thirsties Duo Wrap. I tried my stash of Econobums throughout the morning.
Pros:
-Very thick prefolds, you have to fold it the "small" way for it to fit.
-When folded with the angel wing fold with a Snappi, traps poo very well.
-No blowouts so far and no leaking onto the cover (I love this).
-Simple to use.
-And, obviously, the appealing price to momma's wanting to CD without a crazy price.
-Can be used on newborns & skinny limbed babies... But they should probably be at least 8 pounds.
Cons:
-You have to get the prefold on just right so that there isn't gaps at the legs... I wouldn't recommend not using a Snappi with these prefolds.
-Leg gussets aren't doubled like one Thirsties covers, but if you work at it you can get them tight enough.
-Very fluffy butt baby (this could be a pro though).
- The snaps don't allow as custom fit as velcro dipes. Therefore I snap them differently so that they're tight enough around my LO's waist.
So, let's compare:
$50 (about) for Econobum- 3 covers and 12 prefolds. Or you could get 3 Thirsties Duo Wraps for $36 and 12 prefolds for about $20 (depending where you buy from). For $6 more you're getting better quality covers, but they're 2-sizes, so they won't last as long, birth through potty training like Econobum claims.
And here's a photo of my little nugget in his. He's 21 inches long, 7 lbs 11 oz and a pretty skinny little guy:
Re: Econobum (PIP)
Yeah, they're pretty bulky, hahaha! If you don't fold them right, LO gets what my husband calls "crab legs" because of how much fabric is between his legs, haha!
