I don't think it was meant to be an homage to Spanish/Hispanic culture, since she is african american.

My guess is that that's what her mom was drinking the night she was conceived.

My DH used to work with a guy named Tequila. His mom was named Brandy, and he passed on the "tradition" to his DD, Alize. Tongue Tied

uuummmm... there is a boy in my 4 yo nephews class named MyKing. I kid you not. (me and my husband were chaperoning a field trip) I had to restain my laughter at the teacher all day "sit down MyKing, you have to listen MyKing". Wow!

When I was an academic counselor for education masters students I had a student named Tequila. I just can't imagine being a teacher with an alcohol as my first name.
