I need someone to talk to me about babywearing! Is anyone thinking about it? Already made up your mind? I have been trying to do a little research on it and am feeling a little overwhelmed. It is definitely something that I want to do. Even LONG before I started thinking about babies or knew what babywearing was, I would see moms wearing their babies and think "I am definitely going to do that someday!"
Any good websites to look at? Specific brands? Ahhh so many questions!
Re: Babywearing?? Iris, are you around?
yes me!! so funny you posted this because i was just going to post this link from attachment parenting for a Free sling...

just type in "onefree" as the coupon code (shipping is kind of pricey, but i think im gonna order one anyway).
The ladies over there said if you are between sizes, go bigger bc they run kind of tight.

i think im gonna go with a Beco as my "main" wearing device..they are so pretty and look really comfortable

ERGO is a great, comfortable, supportive one. My sis babywears with her ERGO and loves it... and I love wearing my nephew. I will use the ERGO... BUT... the infant insert to it is very hot and as we are having babies in May... my sister suggested the Bjorn for the infant part because it won't be so hot. So this is what I am thinking:

I was like you, but didn't research at alllll before I bought my Baby Bjorn with DS. It was wonderful, but looking back I wish I had researched and found the Ergo or Boba first. I'm really mad I wasted my money on it because of sooo many reasons, but the biggest being I couldn't use it after he was like 20lbs.
I'm getting an Ergo this time, and can't wait!!! On the Attachment Parenting forum there are quite a few threads like this, and lots of expert BWer's
I had a moby with DS which I loved, but I'd like to get an ergo this time for when #2 gets a bit bigger.
I didn't find the moby to be difficult to wrap.
I have the Beco, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I also borrowed a Moby when DD was really little and I liked it a lot, I think I'm going to get one for myself. I didn't like it when she got bigger though. DD is 17 months and we still use it occasionally.
I hate the Bjorn. It really hurt my back.
I love my Ergo. They are pricey but well worth it, IMO. You can buy a newborn insert for the Ergo but I think generally they are better for babies who are a little older, like 3 months or more.
I never really liked ring slings or peanut shell slings. I've heard great things about the Moby so I'm planning to get one for this baby.

just be really careful with the slings that baby has a ton of space to breathe. They can easily suffocate in slings if they are not worn correctly.
I had a moby wrap - DD did not like it. I have used the Ergo Baby since she was about 4-5 weeks old with the infant insert. We still use it - for example we used it on the airplane/airport last week on our way to Maui.
I have an Ergo, a Peanut Shell (sling) and a Baby Hawk (mei tai). I really liked the sling and Baby Hawk when he was smaller, but now that he's bigger, the Ergo is the best.
I'm keeping them all and plan to continue to use them so long as the sling doesn't get recalled.
I second the AP board suggestion.
I have an ergo, a "moby" (i made my own), and 3 slings (2 ring, 1 pouch) that I also made. I use/ used them all for different things. DD needed to be held constantly for the first 7 mos of her life, and I wore her a lot after that stage as well. She's 2 and still asks to go in the sling sometimes when she's upset. We use the Ergo a lot still to for walking the dog and longer town trips.
We have a Moby, an Ergo and a ring sling of etsy and I have used each one SO MUCH! The Moby we mainly used at the beginnning. We don't practice "AP", but I did wear him a ton around the house- especially when he was fussy. He would instantly go to sleep in the Moby- it was awesome for getting things done around the house!
I used the ring sling once Noah could hold his head up well. It was great for running into a store (which the Moby is NOT unless you already have it tied on... in which case, the knot is probably digging in your back as you drive the car). My particular sling has 2 pockets at the end of the "sash" (for lack of a better word) for wallet/keys- I love it!
We use the Ergo now and love it too! DS is not such a fan of being on our backs, but he's just gonna have to get used to it!

Wow thanks for all the suggestions, ladies! I have been out all afternoon and just got back home to read all the responses!
Off to do more research
Another rave for the Ergo - we didn't get it until after DS was a year old, and I can't believe we waited so long.
Before the Ergo, we used the Baby Bjorn (which is ok until you meet the Ergo), and the Ultimate Baby Wrap, which I think is just like the Moby (someone gave it to me).
Loved the UBW for when DS was younger, didn't love it as much after he was heavier.
I'm planning to buy the infant insert for the Ergo and use the UBW again with this baby.
I only starting wearing DD when she was much older because I didn't know about it before then.
I have a sleepy wrap (more for newborns, haven't used it much with dd), a Maya Ring Sling-which is fantastic for a quick hip hold hands free! Ring slings are supposedly great for nursing too, again, I'll have to wait and try that out. I also have an Ergo which is great for back/front/hip hold for kids up to like 60 lbs or something crazy! The Ergo is very comfortable for both of us and super easy to use.
I've had many outings that were only successful because of wearing her, and also many days she was sick that I was able to get much more done than I would have if I wasn't able to wear her around. Not to mention the other benefits that I'm sure you'll read about.
Baby center has a great swap board for buying semi used carriers for a lot cheaper!! Also, www.babysteals.com has Ergo carriers a lot for 1/2 price. Can't beat that!
I also wanted to add that I think it's recommended that you get a carrier in which the baby's knees are above it's butt when "seated"- it has something to do with the hip and spine placement? I think that's why the Baby Bjorn isn't reccomended as highly as the Ergo, etc. (well that, and I don't think it's reccomended after 20lbs)- because they're sort of hanging by their crotches which causes their backs to arch.
Even if I'm wrong (which I very well may be!
), the Ergo looks more comfortable for the child, since s/he is sitting in it rather than hanging from it.
