I gave up pilates while PG. I should get the all clear to go back to exercising next week. I want to get back to doing pilates and not sure what to expect. Any tips or DVDs I should start with? TIA!
I started pilates classes 7 weeks pp. Since it was intructor lead, I just informed her of my c-section and told her that the doctor gave me the go ahead for all physical activity. In the first week, she suggested that I sit out for things like kneeling abs. But by about 9 weeks pp, I could do everything. Although my stomach isn't as flat as I'd like, pilates is certainly an awesome workout. Just follow common sense and be mindful of the abs exercises in the first few weeks back.
I was given the all-clear at my 6 week checkup, and so I went back to lots of things, including Pilates-based exercises (not classes, not enough time as a working mom of two). You may feel a tug on your incision, just listen to your body and tell your instructor if you're doing the class.
Also, it WILL feel weird doing ab work (or it usually does) for a little while after a c-section. It didn't after my vaginal birth.
