I really love the name Ella for a little girl;
and looking toward our daughter future... I thought Ellamarie would be a little more "grown-up" sounding if she should choose that ... and would like to give her the full first name Ellamarie.
I see a lot of 'Ella Marie (2 separate names) or Ella-Marie..(hypenated) .but we really would like to stay away from hypenating... as the middle name we're choosing is in honor of a family member.. and would make the very long...)
Just wanted to hear any thoughts on keeping the name all one. Thanks!
Re: The name Ellamarie?
It really does look like you missed a space. Just makes me think you were trying to squeeze an extra name in. Go with Ella - although it is admittedly super popular - or another name. Personally, I think Ella ages just fine without making it Ellamarie or anything else. Ella Fitzgerald, anyone?
Ella's.
I agree it looks like you missed a space. Plus when you say it out loud it still sounds like 2 separate names. Not a huge fan.
I don't think Ella as a standalone would be a problem at all in the future- like PP said, so many people will have it.
Proud mama to a boys- 6/17/09 - a girl 2/23/11- and a boy 8/20/12
I don't like Ellamarie... I don't think two names mashed together like that looks grown up at all, and it doesn't really make the name any shorter- you are still using Ella and Marie, just unfortunately mashed together.
I would give her two middle names, or even just forget Ella and use the first name Marie- that is classic and pretty and underused.
I don't think Ellamarie sounds more grown up AT ALL. In fact, it looks quite childish to me.
It also looks like it's pronounced eh-LAM-er-ee
Marie is one of the most popular middle names. It looks like you used a filler because you wanted to come up with something unique, but couldn't think of anything better.
I definitely agree with you about the hyphen. I despise hyphens in first names.
How about Eleanor, or Eloise? They could both be nn'd Ellie or Elle. Drop Marie all together. Then you could still use your family name for the middle name!
