Costco/Sams Club Membership for diapers worth it??

It's just me and him right now, but of course adding two in the future (when they're eating solids and playing sports and active boys) I know a wholesale membership will be worth the cost but is it worth it to get a membership NOW just to buy things like diapers and wipes?

How much do you guys spend on diapers and where do you buy them?

Re: Costco/Sams Club Membership for diapers worth it??

  • I don't get diapers at Costco.  It's much cheaper on amazon.com/mom.

  • Right now we use Target brand diapers for DD and plan to use them for the twins as well.  They are way cheaper than other brands, even at Costco.

  • In the beginning I used swaddlers, and Costco doesn't carry Pampers, and then I did buy Huggies at Costco for awhile-and finally tried out Target brand, which is cheaper than buying diapers at Costco.  If it's just for diapers/wipes, no it's not worth it .  Try target brand-their wipes are pretty good, too! :)  (I still bought Huggies for sleeping through the night, and in a larger size, Target brand seemed to leak, whereas I rarely had problems with Huggies.  (I'm talking about when they're sleeping 10-12 hours at night).
  • I buy the Target brand Up&Up.  They work great for the price.

  • I don't buy them at sam's. They don't carry the sizes I need. I typically buy from diapers.com. I love having everything delivered to me and not having another errand to run.

When I'm in a pinch, i buy Target brand diapers. I hate their wipes. When you pull the wipes with one hand, they're all stuck together and you get 30 instead. They are also WAY to wet. I have to dry my LO's area or it gives her diaper rash. Walmart has great wipes...just make sure to get the sensitive cloth ones in the blue package...the ones in the purple are awful.

  • No LOs yet but I think the Sam's membership is WAY worth it for tons of other things! (Like being PG and eating a lot more!) I buy in bulk and freeze food and it saves a lot of money. Meat at Sam's is a lot cheaper than the grocery stores in the area here. I am not sure about diapers, I think the Amazon moms seems like the best deal but I haven't really compared prices.
  • Luckily I haven't had to purchase many diapers - we received a lot as shower gifts.

Look into sharing the membership with someone, my sister and I split the cost for costco and usually we earn more than enough back to pay for the next year's membership.

If you are trying to go for the cheapest diapers, I think Target's are the best.  Walmart may be slightly cheaper, but I don't like them nearly as much.  If you are going for a particular brand, then it might be a deal to get them at Costco/Sams.  I just priced the Costco diapers and they weren't a deal.  I really like their wipes though and their formula was great and saved us a ton of $ (although I never priced it against Target's).

However, we get tons of stuff at Costco/Sams (we have memberships to both but tend to get more stuff at Costco)--laundry detergent, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, sheets/towels, toys, clothes, OTC meds, electronics, etc.  We even get our tires at Sams and they have been great about patching them and such.

  • as I posted below that BJ's is a client of mine and they pay for my membership, but I had one for a long time before they paid for it. I save a ton of money there on alot of items. So if you are looking to save money period I think it is worth it. they have alot of exclusive coupons and I actually get employee coupons that I can use on top of those as well you can use manufacturer coupons too.

I also posted below amazon moms a friend just got diapers for as low as 17 cents per diaper. that is pretty good...

  • We like/use Costco's Kirkland brand diapers, so it's definitely worth it for us.
  • Diapers no - get them cheaper on Amazon.

But if you are planning on using formula - then yes, totally worth it.

  • Even if we didn't already have a Sam's membership before the LOs, it would totally have been worth it for diapers, wipes, and formula.

  • I'm using amazon mom to stock up on diapers and wipes because it's cheaper than costco.

But, we LOVE costco for everything else (and I mean everything!!) Meat, frozen foods, paper products, cleaning supplies, canned goods, non perishables like cereal, baking goods, spices, granola bars, etc, even big items like vacuum, tires, bedding, car batteries. Pretty much everything we can!! We are using their car buying program to lower the cost of a toyota sienna too.

We have to drive about an 1-1 1/2 to the nearest one but it's well worth it. We stock up about every 8-12 weeks and fill the freezers and pantry.

  • we buy diapers through amazon mom now - but used to get them at Costco - i really like the kirkland brand diapers and LOVE their wipes - we still buy wipes from them- the best i have found anywhere.... and great price.

it's nice to buy stuff in bulk when you have twins = less trips to the store for things you need like TP, waters, etc.  We buy a lot there now that all 3 boys are eating regular foods.

  • I love the delivery part and price from Amazon.  Also prefer pampers.
  • We're doing a combo with diapers from Costco and Amazon.  I really like Costco diapers!  And wipes!  We also get a great deal on diapers (for Audrey) at Amazon.com.  They're Luvs, and a great price, but I don't like them as much.  If you are doing formula from Costco it would really be worth the membership.

I love Costco for more than just diapers.  It's the only store in my area with double carts, and it's really close and I get good deals on bread/juice/berries/paper products, etc.  Sometimes they have zip-up footie PJs.  The girls like sitting up in the cart.

  • i'm confused...i looked at amazon/mom and the diapers were not cheaper than costco?  is it just a certain brand that is cheaper??

(that said, i love costco - we go every week! i buy everything from vitamins to toilet paper, shampoo/conditioner, frozen chicken, wild fish, fresh and frozen veggies, cottage cheese, pizza, canned tuna, spices, fresh and frozen fruit, bread/bagels/baked goods, tomato sauce, coffee....and that is just off the top of my head!)

  • I've done a Costco vs. Sams Club price comparison a few times now, and Sams Club is cheaper on just about everything, including their membership.  It depends what diapers you like.  I tried lots and decided Pampers brand was worth it to me. Sams carries them, Costco does not.  And Sams had the cheapest price (per diaper) then ANYWHERE else that I looked.  We've had a sams card for years though, we buy lots from there, it does save!

  • I wouldn't at Costco...they only have their brand and Huggies, and very limited babystuff.  I don't like Huggies.  However, I have a membership at BJs......which is great because it carries Huggies, Pampers, and my favorite LUVS (which is cheaper than the rest of them-29.99 vs. 42.99-and great diapers if you ask me).  Also, BJs carries baby food and a limited variety of formula, unlike Costco which just carries Similac.($39.99 for a case of 8 which at BRu is $35 for  a case of 6)  THe price of formula at both is cheaper than BRU.

I can't speak for Sam's as we don't have one locally.
