Natural Birth at Virtua Memorial or any SJ hospital

Did anyone here have a natural birth at Virtua Memorial? or anywhere in SJ? Who did you work with?  I want so badly to have a natural birth this time around, and I had an appt with my OB today... I'm thinking I really need to consider switching to a midwife and possibly hire a doula.  I'd love to hear about your experience and any suggestions you have regarding our local resources.  I am having a hard time finding info.  Thanks so much!

Re: Natural Birth at Virtua Memorial or any SJ hospital

  • I just wrote a novel in the post above about my experience at Elmer Hospital with Women's Health Care of Mullica Hill.

My midwife and OB do 50% of their deliveries med-free. I went without an epi, but did have IV drugs at my request.

Here's my birth story if you're interested:

  • My friend just delivered at Elmer hospital and Karen Sloan was her midwife.  She loved her and had a great experiencee.  She does everything med free.  I was too chicken to go there, but my friend highly, highly recommended her.

  • I haven't delivered yet but I'm with the midwives at University Doctors planning to deliver with little intervention at Kennedy in Washington Township.  Good luck in your research!
  • Looks like we are in the same boat! I also live in Marlton! Our ob/gyn (Pinelands) only delivers at Virtua Mt.holly but we really wanted a more natural birth with the option to labor/deliver in water and that just doesn't seem like the place. We are going to the information seminar at The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr,PA on Nov 6th. I am a little anxious about the distance but discussed this option with a doula we are interviewing and she said a lot of people from our area use the birth center and we just would head over there earlier in labor than usual. There is also a birth center in wilmington, de but our insurance company won't cover that far south for some reason. Hope this helps!
