Can't decide if we want a changing table or not...

DH is in the "not" category. With DD we had a dresser with a changing table on top. I say we used the changing table part 1/2 the time and 1/2 the time we changed her on our bed (same room where her changing table/dresser and crib were).

With this baby, it will be sharing a dresser with DD in her room. The crib will be in our room. There's no dresser top that has space for a changing pad on it, and I know we could change the baby on our bed (that's what DH plans on), but we wouldn't have anywhere to store diapers/wipes (we're CDing) in our room where baby will be most of the time--we'd have to store them in DD's room, which wouldn't work when she's asleep at night or whatever.

I am perusing Craigslist looking for a cheap one... maybe I'll look at secondhand stores, too... I get where DH is coming from but at the same time I don't know how we can manage without one...

  • I'm just putting a changing pad on top of our dresser that we've got.  No need for extra stuff that we don't have room for...

  • What about using something like this for the diapers and the wipes? It doesn't look disorganized or sloppy and you could always go with a different style if you wanted, too.
  • I'm not using one.  We have a twin bed in the room, so I'm just using that.  I bought some of those big waterproof cloth pads they use in hospital beds at a medical supply store and am just going to put one of those down to protect the bed the bed.  I have a basket similar to the one starb4long posted to corral all the wipes, diapers, ointments, etc.  If I was you I'd just use the dresser top, or if he reeeally wants one, do what you're already doing and look on Craigslist.  I'm sure they're convenient, but after a certain point they lose their function and it's just another thing to have to find a place for to store, lol.

  • I'm with PPs.  If space is limited, I would just find somewhere to store all of the CDs, like the basket or dresser drawer PPs recommended.  I don't think changing tables are really necessary.  The only reason we got one was because we got it free when we bought the crib and we have a lot of space in LO's nursery.  Otherwise, we would have just used LO's dresser top as a changing table and used one of the drawers to store all of the diapers and wipes.
