whats everyone buying their shower host?

I'm at a loss on what to buy my shower hosts. One is my sister and one is my best friend. My sister won't be hard to buy something for but my best friend is causing me fits. Any ideas. She is a wonderful, outspoken ,giving, caring person who has been there forever for me and has done so much for this shower.  Any ideas would be wonderful.

Re: whats everyone buying their shower host?

  • Depending on how much you want to spend... here are some things I did for my hostesses.

Bath and Body Works Sleep shower gel and lotion with a cute little lamb loova

GC to a spa for some pampering

Homemade Thank You cards for the ladies that made something for people to eat

  • I've been wondering the same thing. I have to get something for my MIL and cousin-in-law. I cant wait to see what ideas these ladies come up with.
  • I was planning to send flowers to my hosts.
  • I would get her an edible arrangements - you can find small arrangements for about $30

  • I like the edible arrangement idea.  I hadn't thought about that...  But my hostess is obsessed with her weight and super paranoid, so with my luck she'd probably think i was trying to sabotage her by giving her food.  Oy.

I'll probably go with a gc to the salon i know she uses for manis/pedis.

  • I usually do flowers that can also be used as party decor if the shower is held in someone's home.  Otherwise, I like the mani/pedi idea.
  • I find flowers horrible and a waste of money.( sorry, i even hate when DH brings/sends me flowers) I want something that will last forever and remind them both of the day. Maybe a pandora bracelet with a charm or something along those lines.

I'm with you on this one.  My husband already knows better than to get flowers, for a multitude of reasons (I'm allergic/they die/cats eat them)

  • My 2 friends who are throwing my showers are total Starbucks junkies. I was just thinking about getting them each a gift card.

After the shower I might get a frame that says 'friends' and put our pictures in it.

  • I have three hosts...I'm thinking some personalized stationary or note cards for each, maybe a bottle of wine (they can drink still) for the two local hosts, and then a necklace for the host that's flying in.

  • My friend is throwing my shower and I am getting her a nice bottle of wine and a gift card to Sephora.  For the family shower my MIL is throwing, I will bring her fresh flowers.

well the edible arrangements are just fruit...you could skip the chocolate covered ones!

She's seriously deranged.  She eats basically nothing and lashes out at anyone who dares to suggest that she's lost too much weight.

Normal human beings think fruit is healthy. She sees nothing but an insidious caloriefest.

This morning, I had an apple and a yogurt for breakfast at work.  She walked by, saw what I was having, and said something to the effect of "you're so lucky you are pregnant and can eat whatever you want.  If I ate things like that, I'd just look pregnant."

I try not to take it personally, since I'm aware that she's insane.

  • I have never heard of shower hostess gifts until I joined the bump.  I have hosted 2 wedding and 2 baby showers in my family and never expected anything in return besides a thank you card. I always bring a hostess gift to parties I am invited to, and send thank you cards for every gift I receive, so I do not think of myself as rude or uncaring.  This is just not something my family/friends do.

I have 6 hosts for my shower (mom, 2 sisters, mil, 2 sil's) because it is a joint family shower.  I cannot afford to buy 6 gifts, and will just send thank you cards to each participant.

I'd never heard of it either until joining the bump.  Consequently, my bridal shower hostess got nothing but my heartfelt thanks.

Now that I've heard of it, i feel obligated.

  • I am having a shower this weekend with 5 hostesses.  I needed something that is cost effective b/c i couldnt really afford to get them all GC or personalized stuff.  I am baking mini loaves of pumkin bread and puting it in cute packaging with a fall type spreader tied to it.
  • I'm buying the knock off Scentsy candles since I have 5 hostesses.  I found them at Hobby Lobby (currently on sale right now).  They were $10 each and then I bought 2 packages of the wax for $2 each.  For all 5 sets, it came to about $75.00. :)

  • 6 or 7 of my neighbors are throwing me one shower, so I am thinking about getting them all a small candle or maybe baking them each a little loaf of banana bread.

3 of my good friends are throwing me another one, and I haven't figured out what to get them yet. Maybe something monogrammed.
