We've moved... DD misses her friend... what to do?

We just moved from TX to CA. 

DD is missing her best friend from preschool.  Every night it's tears and sobs because she misses her so bad.  I let her paint a cute picture frame and put a pic of the two of them in it. And we've sent her friend postcards/letters. 

It's breaking my heart that DD misses her so much.  I have allowed her to be sad and told her we all miss friends from TX.  But I feel like this is carrying on for way too long (it's been about a month).  Any suggestions on what to do next?

I have tried calling, but the family is actually out of the country on vacation.

We will be in the same boat shortly.  Does your DD go to school yet?  We took DD to see her school already.  Going to the park to meet some new friends might help.

I don't know if this will help or hurt DD but we have a Skype account and so does DD's BFF so we will talk over the computer and they will "see" each other that way

Clearly, if you're that unhappy about your young DC missing a friend, you should move back to CA. No other solutions.
