What do you think?

I don't like flaming a name blindly without looking it up. Nameberry says it's a Hebrew name being "God is my light".

I know this family though, and they are both from very Catholic families. Just confused me. :P Especially with the mn Maddox.

IMO, it sounds like a medical term. Like urinary tract or something.

  • Can't see the name
  • I agree with you. Uriah is becoming an alternative to Elijah, I think. I've seen it popping up more and more. I maintain, like you, that it sounds like a medical condition involving the urinary tract . . . it is, therefore, not a name I would consider.

  • I agree.  Sounds like urea.  The name Elias was ruined for me because it sounds too much like ileus...
  • I'm familiar with the name Uriah since it's a Bible name so I wouldn't have thought twice about it, except that it's unusual. But yeah, I could see people thinking urine-related things when they hear the name.

  • gross.  Urea.  Urine.  Garbage Pail Kid name.
  • It's a biblical name (not strictly Hebrew) so it makes sense that a devout Catholic family would use it.

But I agree with you. The name is very unattractive in English. I wouldn't use it.

  • I hate it. I know someone who just named her son Uriah. I think of urea, like the main component in urine lol.

There is a popular UFC fighter name Uriah Faber. I think thats why we're seeing it all over lately.

  • Like pps, makes me think of urea and urine. I don't really like names beginning with "U" in general. It is my least favorite vowel (and the one that made my maiden name such a PITA to spell and pronounce).
