it's pretty thick-- maybe 3ish inches? will those standard 'bumper' type deals work or are they just for the flat surfaces?
looks like this to give an idea:

Re: new home has a fireplace hearth with a stone overhang-- how to babyproof?
First off: gorgeous! I wouldn't babyproof that unless you are planning to light a fire. If so, I'd honestly light the fire when LO goes to bed
We have a new issue with old Victorian radiators. I think some things just can't be baby-proofed.
Congrats on the new house!!
We are considering this for a house we just bought...

We just bought something similar for our split level staircase.

It is wonderful! It is a little cheaper than the one from onestepahead.com but attaches to the wall and has the gate. We were able to get it with free shipping too!
We have a big cement ledge like that around our fireplace, but it's like 10 feet long, and in 2 rooms (long 2 way fireplace between den and living room). We didn't know WHAT to do and heard that the bumper adhesive can be really hard to remove. We ended up just putting a folded-up comforter on it and watching DD like a hawk and amazingly it's worked out okay. She hit her head on tons of stuff but not the fireplace ledge.
Our issue lately is that she recently learned how fun it is to climb onto the ledge and try to sit or stand on it. It's a stone fireplace so she could hit her head on the stones themselves when she tries to play on the ledge. She's PRETTY good about it since we take her down right away every time, but it's still a hazard.
It would not be the prettiest solution but maybe try a pool noodle, cut it down the middle on one side and stick it on. Cheap and easy!
