Feeling overwhelmed

So, we have yet to start the nursery ... or even order the furniture.  There's still so much that needs to be done prior to getting furniture though.  The upstairs carpet definitely, without a doubt needs to be replaced.  A friend of mine said that she used Empire in her new house and they're great.  She said that they will come in, give an estimate, and install the carpet the next day.  Only problem is, I figured we'd paint her room prior to getting new carpet.  Makes sense to do that considering the old carpet will be thrown out and who cares if I get paint on it.  Only problem with painting is, I wanted to match the blue and green to her bedding as best I can.  Problem is ... we haven't even ordered it yet.

And as for painting, my husband mentioned last night that he wanted to do it the first week of November.  We're both teachers and he coaches (while working a hundred other jobs) ... so I feel like there's never any time.

I swear, I feel so unbelievably overwhelmed right now.  My husband of course tells me to relax and that it will all get done ... but I can't help but feel stressed.

Re: Feeling overwhelmed

  • First, breathe! It will get done. Have you tried writing out a list of all that needs to be done? I did this back in May when we first found out we were expecting. I then prioritized the list and tried to cross off at least one thing a week. Good luck!

  • I know how you feel. I felt the same way and then I gave myself a kick in the pants and also reminded myself that it does not all have to be prefect by the time she is born, I'd just like it to be. She can sleep in the PNP or a co-sleeper in our room until we have it done.

You need a list. Like PP mentioned, one thing a week is good. This week, order the bedding. Next week, order the furniture, On the third week, the bedding should be here, so take a swatch, get paint chips, and choose a color. This takes you to the first week of NOV, when your DH wants to paint. Then The following week call Empire. :)

This is doable. Just take it one thing at a time and it wall all come together before you know it.

  • You sound about like me! it is so overwhelming.  We plan on keeping the baby in the room with us in a Pack n' play for at least the first month so that gives some extra time.  If you do this, it gives you an extra month to get stuff done.  I nannied for a little boy last year and they didn't paint his room until he was about 4 months old.  It didn't make any difference for him.  The room makes no difference to the baby so just take your time and enjoy it!

  • Take a breath... it will be okay! :)

We just used Empire and they were fantastic.  I was very thrilled with them, and I LOVE our new carpet!  Very stress-free experience!

Do you have a sample of the bedding, or can you get something from the bedding to take to Lowes or HD to match the color in the bedding to the paint?  It's something that maybe you can have a friend or family member do for you during the week since you don't have time!

Good luck... I know it's stressful.  I'm stuck on bed rest and now I really can't do anything else for the baby's room.  I figure you know what?  If it doesn't get done, at least she's got a warm roof over her head, cozy clothes, and parents who love her.  We'll just keep her in a bassinet in our room until we get the baby's room done.  :)
