Vent about venting...

So sometimes, I just need to vent to get stuff off my chest. I have a friend/coworker that no matter what I say, has to come back with something like...everything happens for a reason or it will happen when it is supposed to. I understand this and I feel this way too. Sometimes, I just need to VENT and just need someone to listen. She is the only one at work that I can vent to. It just annoys me!

Who else has a friend like this?

  • Oh yeah, I definitely have friends like that. I know they mean well, but I just stop venting to them. What I'm looking for when I vent is just some empathy (or sometimes suggestions, but usually if I want those, I'll ask). I hate platitudes.

  • That gets annoying. It's like a generalized response to anything bad. They could try to put a little more effort into empathizing. It's like when I vent to DH, he doesn't even say anything. How annoying is that? I would love for him to at least say "It happens for a reason". LOL!

  • Oh yeah. I have a friend like that. I also have friends that like to out-complain you.

I am dealing with this issue now more than ever. I avoid the out-complainers. Sorry, being sick that I have cancer is NOT the same as having cancer!  Sorry, but I don't see how everything happens for a reason. Seriously?

I guess I am out complaining your vent about venting! LOL
