Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

will posed pics with a 19m old =nightmare??

we haven't had pro pics done of DS since hIs one year shots, and he wasn't walking then.  he is your typical "all over the place" toddler and doesn't stay in one place for long.  I wanted to take him to Picture People to use a great coupon and to get some belated 18m pics.  I can already imagine me dragging him back to the backdrop numerous times as he runs wild, so I am thinking it might be a bad idea.   thoughts? experiences?

  • I think it's really hit or miss at any age.  Picture People is a good option bc there are no sitting fees, you're not required to buy anything, so if you don't get any good pics you don't have to spend any money.

I'm sure the photographer will be able to distract him with a prop or toy long enough to get at least one good shot.. (my sister takes her 3 crazy boys to PP all the time and has success 99% of the time)  Good luck!

  • We did the boys' 18m pics at 19m due to rescheduling b/c of sickness. We almost did them at Portrait Innovations but ended up doing them at a Children's Garden with a photographer friend instead. They turned out OK; it will definitely help if you have focal points, things for him to play with/on, etc., rather than expecting him to just stay still and smile. ;)

  • Have you thought about using a natural light photographer? that's what I am, it and when we take pics of us with my almost 20 mth old, i prefer a natural light photographer! it's easier because kids can pretty much run around and those are the best pictures! but if you prefer the studio i think its ahit or miss with any kid no matter what age. HTH.
  • DS is a bit of a runner, but he didn't try to take off on me when I took him for 18mo pics. No, he figured out that every time she took a shot, his face showed up on a monitor behind her, so he'd move over for a better view of the monitor, putting himself just in the wrong spot for the lighting and looking the wrong direction for her to get any shots. LOL  We managed to get plenty of good ones though.

I would love to and we've had great luck with a local photographer here.  I spent a lot of $$ on his one year shots so for the 1/2 year shots we are going budget!  guess we'll give it a try, we've got nothing to lose!

too bad that photog didnt offer a two year series. :( If I were to use a studio I think it would be either Olan Mills or Picture People. Good luck!
