Parenting after a Loss

How to help DS sleep when it's cold!

DS has slept miserably for the past 2 nights, and my best guess is because it is colder outside.  He wants to be picked up and then instantly falls asleep while you are holding him.  The second you put him back in the crib, he screams.  I'm thinking he feels the cold sheet and doesn't want any part of it!  He's in a blanket sleeper, and we broke down and turned the heat on, but his room stays cool.

Anyone use a small space heater in LO room?  I have all kinds of reservations about safety, but not sure what else to do.  Anyone seen fleece or flannel crib sheets anywhere?  Would these be too much of a sfety risk for an almost 8 mo old to sleep on versus a regular sheet?

  • We do tend to keep our house cool in the winter, so this is my plan: flannel crib sheet (Koala Baby at BRU has these) and fleece sleeper over onesie. If that's not enough, I may try the space heater. He moves around too much in his sleep to keep a regular blanket on.

  • We have a space heater in DS's room. It's one of those that turns off if it falls over ( I think they all do that now). I just keep it away from anything flammable & of course his crib!

  • When you guys say it's cool in LO's room, what is the temp? DS's room is the coldest in the house and I'm constantly worried about him staying warm.

  • I didn't know there were flannel crib sheets! I'm so all over that! We had the same issue the last two nights here. Darn cold sheets lol. I also sucked it up and turned the heat on this morning. Boo :-(

  • I would be too afraid of fires to use a space heater.  What are you dressing him in?  I would probably switch to flannel sheets (I'm sure you can find them online - definitely through Etsy if not commercially) and just make sure he's otherwise warm enough.

  • we ONLY got the flannel sheets - they're great! super soft and stay tight on the mattress... instead of "sheet savers" we toss a folded up receiving blanket under his heiny, too..

  • What we did in the winter last year was we put a heating pad on his bed to warm up the sheets and removed it and turned it off right before putting him down.  That way he had a nice warm spot to sleep on.  Plus we put him down on a nice folded fleece blanket in his sleepers and sleepsack.  I hope now that we have new windows this year his room won't be so drafty.
