stupid ? - when did your LO catch up?

How early was your LO?

When did your LO catch up in size?

When did your LO catch up in milestones?

Just curious :) thanks.  I can't remember when they told us but by age 2-3??  But then EI said they assume the should be caught up by 2.  I know every kid is different and there isn't a magic number.

He was on the growth for actual age for weight at about 17 months adjusted.  (He'd been on for height for a while.)

I'm not sure. He's having an EI eval on Friday.  I think he is on the slow end of his adjusted age or maybe behind his adjusted age but def not caught up yet. (21 months actual)

  • How early was your LO? 6 weeks
When did your LO catch up in size? Still hasn't...she was born in the 3% for her GA and is now up to about the 3% on the actual age chart. DH and I are 5'6" and 5'1", and all our parents are under 5'8", so we're pretty much assuming she'll always be a peanut. When did your LO catch up in milestones? By about 6 months. Milestones are so variable, though, and she's never been seen by EI, just the pedi. She has a friend who was born full-term about a month earlier than her and she's been hitting milestones about a month later than her for about the last 6 months.

He's been on the growth charts since his one month appointment. He didn't get to the midpoint until his 15 month appointment (prior to that he was under the 50th percentile).

Our pedi considered him caught up at his 18 month appointment.

  • E was only 5 weeks early, but SGA.

He hugs along the bottom of the growth chart - around 4-5% (actual age), and has since 6 months.  We're still using the adjusted growth chart, where he's chugging along around the 20%.

E has hit all motor milestones and social milestones (so far) on time.

Our doc says they'll stop using adjusted age for everything (growth and milestones) at 2 years, and then all judgments about development would be made based on actual age.  I don't know if it's because convention says they're "caught up" by then, or if it's because of educational measures showing improved outcomes for intervention based on actual age. My guess is probably a little of both is going on.

  • How early was your LO? DD was 26 weeks and DS was 35 weeks 3 days

When did your LO catch up in size? Angelina has been on the height chart for about 6 months, but she still isn't even on the chart for her actual age. I honestly don't even consider DS a preemie since he caught up a month after he was born.

When did your LO catch up in milestones? According to EI Angelina is doing "low average - average" for her actual age and "above average" for her adjusted age. DS has been hitting hi milestones at his actual age and is fully caught up IMO.

  • Mine were 32 weeks and I would consider them pretty much caught up now at 13 months old/11 adjusted. They still aren't walking but they are trying to. And DD is still small, DS just below average but for the most part, they are like most 12 month olds. I think at least?? :)

  • Boys were born at 30w3d

They were on the "regular" growth chart around their 9 month check up I think.  Now Nathan is 50% for weight, 90% for height (actual age), and Joey is 35% weight, 50% height (actual age).

They received EI for awhile due to gross motor delays, not rolling (did so around 7.5 months), not crawling (crawled at 11 months)... but they walked at 16 months and now actually have gross motor skills in the 24 month range as of their last assessment (they've always been climbers).

They still have an expressive language delay... very mild... and as preemie twin boys I'm not surprised.  They do not receive EI for it because I am the SLP for EI in our area so there's not really a need for them at this point to receive services for language.  I think by 2 they will be mostly caught up, but I don't think 2 is a magical number either.

E was on the regular growth chart by 4 months for weight 6 months for both weight and height.  This was a surprise to us since she was a super slow grower in the nicu and was very low birth weight for her g.a. (1040 g)  She is now 21lbs at 14 months.

She is still behind in gross motor and speach.  She was not delayed enough to qualify for EI and was discharged last week. She scored at 11 months for gross motor and 12 months for expresive language.  She seems to be making progress and they seemed to think that she would be walking in 4-6 weeks.  We will see.  In some ways she is ahead (19 months for social emotional) and some ways she is on target 14-15 months for small motor and cognative.  I have been told by 2 most are caught up but I would think E will still be a bit behind when she hits 2.

DS's been on the growth charts for the beginning (5'6" and 18.5") and has hovered between the 25-50% since 2 months.

Development-wise he is very far behind on gross motor - just started rolling regularly tummy to back the week he turned 1.   He's ahead socially, at his actual age for adaptive skills and around his adjusted age to a little behind in speech and cognitive skills.  He's coming along though and I figure he'll (hopefully) get there in his own time.  I know plenty of FT kids right now who are way behind according to the way EI measures and standard milestones, but they're doing just fine, just taking their time.

He made it onto the growth charts in weight by his 3 month appointment, and now at 4.5 months he is 50th percentile (15 lbs 11 oz).  He focused most of his energy on growing this past month; it was like a growth spurt that I thought would never end but it's settling out now.  He is still at least a month or so behind in milestones compared to the other babies in our playgroup.
