XP: Half Marathon, 21 weeks PG :)

Just a mini-report, but I am so happy!

Got up way too early to meet my coworkers before the race, but it actually worked out well bc it was super crowded. The weather was perfect for running....low 40s, partly cloudy, only would have been better with less wind, but it didn't rain and it was just chilly enough to feel great while moving. I was nervous bc I haven't been running more than 12 miles and have only done that about once a month since my marathon in June. It was also a hilly route, which doesn't usually work out so well for me.

My last half marathon I ran in 1:49 (during marathon training, not pregnant) and I knew I was nowhere near that level, so my goal was 2:10;  I would have been happy with anything less than that. I managed to pretty much ignore the hills and actually ran the second half (the hilly half) faster than the first. I felt GREAT while I was running. Not tired, not short of breath, just awesome!

I realized with about a half mile left that if I really pushed it, I could finish in under 2 hours, so I basically sprinted (which is probably not the best idea for me, but it was downhill so it was like cheating) and I came across the finish line in 1:59:15!! I am sooo happy with my time :):)  I also beat all of my (non pregnant) coworkers by quite a bit :)

I am a little sore now, but nothing that won't go away in about a day. I think the worst pain is round ligament pain.... maybe my little one thought that was a bit much bouncing.... though he was SUPER active after I stopped moving, so I think he liked it :) Oh, and I got a lot of comments on my tshirt. I ironed on "running for two" with footprints in the background across my belly :)

  • First of all congrats!!  I believe I ran the same race as you, the Brooksie Way half?  I finished 2:01:30 (1:30 behind my goal of 2 hours which is ok since I did have to stop and wait for a potty break!), so I was just behind you!  This was my first half since 2006 and the first since having DS.  Cute t-shirt idea!!  Man those were a lot of hills :)

    Congrats again!!

  • wow that's impressive!  great job!
  • That's awesome, congrats!

That's almost my same story except a.) I was post-babies and b.) I didn't quite make my 2 hour goal. Big Smile

A++ for running through your pregnancy.  I can say that from experience, it makes getting back in shape SO much easier.  I gained 36lbs with twins, fit back into my regular clothes by 2w pp, and ran a half marathon at 12w pp.  You'll be back into your speedy, skinny, self in no time!
