Antibiotics

DS was placed on Augmentin for an ear infection and a red throat. He had his first dose on 9-30-10. Since that night his poop has been so runny and a little more frequent. Is it normal for antibiotics to do this, or is his body having some sort of reaction to it? I wouldn't characterize it as diarrhea yet, and he is still eating like he should, so.... IDK.

Re: Antibiotics

  • I don't have personal experience but I know some Mamas put their LOs on probiotics to combat this while LO is taking his meds. DS takes probiotics daily and it has really helped his tummy. We use BioGaia. It's available OTC but you have to get it from the pharmacist because it has to be refrigerated. It's about $33 at Target. GL

  • Both the infection and the antibiotics will cause diahrea.  Colin has had a few colds where the dr. put him on it and it said the drainage from the cold infection would cause it to be runny as well as the antibiotics.  He told me not to worry, just to make sure he was still eating well.
