What would you do with this info?

R went to playschool at the Y yesterday for the first time. Last night at bedtime I told him how proud I was that he was brave and went to school. He said "I didn't like it when the man pulled my feet and made me cry." I tried to get him to explain what he was talking about but he just repeated it over and over. There was a man that works at the Y that was in and out of the playroom but I don't know who he was.

Should I say something to the teachers or the director? WWYD?

  • I'd start by asking the teachers..tell them what he told you and see how the explain it.  Also ask about who has access to the classroom.  If you are not satisfied with the answers you get, talk to the director.
  • Is there a slide there? Maybe he pulled his feet to get him down the slide when your DS didn't want to?

    I would definitely ask around.

  • My DD came home from the 1st week of school and told me her teaches kicked a boy down the stairs for being mean.  My friends DD came home and said she had chocolate and Doughnuts for snack (she had fruit and cherrios).  Not that all kids that age lie, but they are hugely imaginative.  First I would ask DS open ended questions to see what his response was.  Like "Where were you when your feet where pulled?"  "Did it hurt a part of your body? What part".  My guess is you will find out it is not at all what you think and when the story continues it becomes more and more impossible.

I would not say anything to the director, unless your son has bruising or a limp.  This is just the age for this kind of thing.  If you want to ask the teacher go ahead, my friend did.  I would phrase it more as "DS told me this crazy thing" rather than an accusation.
