Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

There are so many crappy parents out there vent!

There are the really bad ones and also the ones that do the bare minimum. Of course facebook brought this on. Just a stupid comment someone made about how she doesn't really care if her kids play with recalled toys, etc. I mean I know the recall wasn't anything too serious but it was the tone. Other things she has posted just give me the heebie jeebies (ie CIO at 1 month etc). You can take kids away from abusive homes. What about the person who lucks out and their kid never gets hurt etc from their neglect. I am talking about the CIO's from day one, the ones who never get caught but leave the baby in the crib while they run to the liquor store, never actually play with their kids, don't babyproof their home, won't pay for a dance class but will blow $200 a week on cigs and booze. Yes this is all the same person who does these things. The only solution is for me to defriend her on facebook. She is my cousin's wife and I barely know her so I don't know why she sent me a friend request in the 1st place. Thanks for letting me vent!

  • It's likely someone out there thinks you're a bad parent too.

It takes all kinds, and I'm personally thrilled to live in a country where my children can't be removed from my care simply because I do/don't do something with them that most people wouldn't approve of.

Parental ethics are relative. I REALLY don't think you'd want to live in a society where they aren't.

  • ITA. I defriended a girl I went to school with because she was always posting about what a pain in the @ss her kiddos were. Drove me crazy to hear her talk about her children like that! The saddest part about it is that it's the LO's who suffer because their mom is too ignorant to realize what a blessing children are.

  • Just defriend her and move on.  It's not worth getting upset over.

  • Should I mention anything to my cousin? I mean we are not really close. What about the leaving the baby alone while she runs to the liquor store? The house could burn down or something. Generally she is just a bad mom but some things lean to the legal definition of abuse. I think I will just defriend her and move on but I feel for those kids (5 of them - she is 23 I think but no judgemet lol!)

I know other posters said not to make a big deal about it, but if this woman is leaving her child alone in the house while she goes to the store (guess I missed that part when I read the OP), liquor or otherwise, I'd have a HUGE problem with that. Anything could happen while she's gone! I honestly can't say what I would do given your situation since I haven't been there, KWIM?

  • My mom is going to mention it to her brother (my cousin'd dad). Hopefully something gets done. If not I may have to make a call to CPS.

  • Sounds like some of those offenses are CPS worthy. How anyone could think it's okay to leave a child to run to the liquor store (or anywhere really) is beyond me. That's not right.

  • The only reason I know she left the baby is because she wrote about it on facebook. Posted something like "Dang - need beer tonight." then something about how when she got back the baby was passed out in the crib still. I commented about it, asked if her mom was watching the baby, she replied no, that the store was only a quick walk and the baby was fine in the crib. I assume she left the other kids at home too.

Did you miss the part about leaving a child in the crib while going out to the party store?  Or letting a one day old cry it out?  That's really not relative.
