What is this rash? Please help!

Hi ladies. I'm hoping you can help my friend out here. Her son developed this rash since yesterday. She has a call into her pedi but maybe one of you has been through it and knows what it is? Here are some pics. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just for the record: No new foods were introduced, no new soaps. No fever just the red ears.

TIA!

  • OMG!  This makes my heart hurt!  It looks like an allergic reaction of some sort, but since you said your friend hasn't introduced anything new, I'm stumped.  Poor little guy!

Allergies are really bad around here right now.  Was he outside a lot when they started appearing?  This might help.

I would give him Benedryl.  HERE

  • Lila had the EXACT SAME RASH earlier this week and over the weekend. The pedi had a loooooong name for it that I can't remember, but said it is a viral reaction to something environmental. It's not contagious, but it usually gets worse before it gets better.

She said benadryl won't help, but the kid will start to looked bruised and swollen and get puffy eyes. And then suddnely it just goes away.

And it did. After about three days it just disappeared.

  • Poor little guy.  Hopefully, your pedi wants you to bring him in to check it out.  I have this bookmarked it and it may help...

  • Thank you ladies very much! She took him to the pedi and he put him on a steroid. it is an allergic contact rash with a really bad reaction. I appreciate your advice!
  • Thanks for the info ladies! Like my friend said, doc said it was a allergic reaction to something. No he wasn't outside when this started. I can almost guarantee that it's to laundry soap. My friend gave me a bunch of clothes (already washed) so I put him in jammies from her. It started like the next day. Doc has him on prednisone, cortisone cream and benedryl (sp). Thankfully he is in good spirits and is his same silly self.
