Medela harmony manual pump = irritating

I just got one today to use while out and about.  I tried it out just now and the suction is awful and the milk ends up coming out underneath the flange.  What is the deal?  I even changed the flange to be the hard one instead of the soft one.  It is better, but still not good.

Anyone have success with this pump?

Re: Medela harmony manual pump = irritating

  • I like mine, but I only ever used it when I had a clogged duct or when I was especially engorged early on.

Sometimes the suction is bad but then I hold it at a different angle.

  • FREAKING A I just bought this today as well and it is stressing me out! If you get the suction right the bottle is upside down and the only way to really get all of the milk is to scrape the flange against your boob as you pull it off periodically. I'm bummed because the lactation specialist recommended it. I have good letdown and can express a lot by hand with a lot less spillage. Angry I can't afford an electric this week so I guess I'm stuck with this for now.

  • I hate mine. I have been using it for a month and it hasn't gotten any better. I can generally get 5 oz and stop before empty on each breast after only three hours (horrible over supply). With this stupid pump I only get 4-5 oz total, if I am lucky and hand pump for an hour. Did I mention I hate it? Makes me wish my college was a little more BF mom friendly.
