Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Is this normal teething?

DD has 8 teeth and is now getting some molars. This experience is unlike before. She was running a fever of 102 and after a day of tylenol/motrin it went away. Now no fever but she is beyond miserable, whining nonstop, not eating solids, no longer sttn, even more clingy, and constipated. We switched to milk last week and I am wondering if the constipation if from the milk. Its been about 5 days like this and I am going nuts. When does it get better?

  • I think you may have just answered my question in the post above.

Are you sure she's constipated?  Less product in, less product out, you know?  I don't think milk would make her constipated, but DS poops like clockwork every day and he's been on straight milk for a couple of weeks now.

Def constipated, rock hard poop and turning purple from pushing so hard when trying to go, screaming from pain when pooping.

  • Oh geez, poor little girl!  Have you tried going back to a 25%/75% mix of formula or milk to see if that helps her?

I was thinking about something like that, I was pushing more water and apple juice but she doesnt want it. Thanks for your advice, I am going to regress back to the a combo with formula.

  • If she likes yogurt, that might work.  Seems counter-intuitive but if DS eats more than one 4oz serving of yogurt, his stool gets much more soft.  So, I dunno... Maybe try that?  How does she do with bananas or applesauce?  Those are both high in fiber, so those might work, too.

  • We had this problem with Bryce as well, so I know what you're going through.. and I'm sorry! :( It does get better. We just kept giving Bryce the Tylenol/Motrin (by proper dosage & time of course), and we also always had something cold and hard for him to chew on. We also gave him some ice cream after dinner (just a few bites of plain vanilla) to keep his mouth calm.
