Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Bfing may not last the full year.

Z's first tooth has finally poked through and it'a Sharp. I know because he bit me 4 times in one feeding.I don't know if this is going to last as it hurt like hell. How do you prevent biting?

Re: Bfing may not last the full year.

  • From what I have read you take them off the minute they bite and close up shop for a little bit OR you could be like my MIL and flick them on the nose, you know like a dog!

  • DS did this for about a week and then it stopped...it was hard but I would say a firm no and remove him from the breast, I am hoping when the next teeth come through it will be a non issue. Also, I noticed it happened more towards the end of the feeding so maybe if you can sense that, pull him off before he has the chance.

  • He will stop. C did this when he first got teeth, and yes it's really painful! However, like pp said just take him off the boob. I will probably jinx myself now, but C got his first tooth at four months, probably started biting around 5.5 months and did it (not constantly of course) for a few weeks. He hasn't don't it since and for that I am grateful since he now has upper and lower teeth.

  • LO did this to me at 4am - at the end of the feeding on one side, and after I switched he did it on the other side too. He has his 2 bottom teeth now and it looks like he is working on his top too - which has me scared. I may switch to pumping only if he doesn't stop. I did the firm no thing and took him off for a minute - so I plan to keep that up if the biting continues. He didn't start until he had both in - and it hurt.

  • My little guy is on tooth #8... he's only bit me once by accident.  I think once they realize those teeth are in there then they somehow know not to bite?  Who knows....it was scary at first but we're still going strong :)

  • yes you stop feeding and they learn quickly that if they bite they won't get food. ethan did it only for like a few days and he was done. i never stopped a feeding either. GL! dont give up now! :)
