Cloth Diapering

Happy Heinys Vs. Bum Genius

I'm looking at the one size. Tell me what you think.

What about drying? I'd perfer not to dry in the dryer is one better than the other or do they have to be done in the dryer?

Re: Happy Heinys Vs. Bum Genius

  • I have a BG 3.0 (velcro), some BG organics (snaps) and a couple of HHs (snaps).  I like the BG, but the HH does not fit my baby well.  I think the HH is good for bigger and/or chunkier babies, and I think my baby is too little for them right now.  I just can't get a good fit on her.  I love our BGs, both the 3.0 and organics.  They fit well, and I have not had any leaks or blowouts in them.

I line dry all my dipes -- great way to get stains out, it helps dipes last longer, and it's free!  I then put them in the dryer with a wet cloth wipe on low heat for a few minutes to fluff/soften them up.  Anything with PUL should not be dried on high heat in the dryer.

  • Oh okay, cool!

  • I have both, I love the BGs and hate the HHs.  Like pp said, the HHs are probably better for bigger babies, I have never used them without a leak, but I'm holding on to them to try again when she is a bigger toddler.  I have never had a problem with the BGs (we have all 3.0 onesize pockets), they fit great and so far have held up very well, we've been using them for about 9 months now.  I always line dry the shells/pockets and sometimes line dry the inserts, the inserts get a little rougher when line dried, but since they are inside the pocket and not against LO's skin it's not a big deal.

From my experience I always recommend BGs over HHs

  • Hmmm too bad the BG has such crappy colors. (sorry I hate pastels)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the new colors.  See if you can find some older 3.0's, I have some dark green (ribbit) and orange (clememtine), plus lighter ( not pastel) blues, greens, yellows.

  • I like BGs way better than HH.

    I line dry them all.

  • I like both of them. I'm actually really fond of my Happy Heinys, but I do have a pretty chunky baby (15 pounds at 2 1/2 months). They fit her well on the smallest setting, but they're snapped really small in the waist, so they just fit her. Definitely for bigger babies, and I'm counting on them to fit her when she's older too because she's probably going to be tall. The BGs are very nice too, though. I'd say they're my top two diapers.

If you can wait to buy. BG is releasing their new patterns on October 5. Supposedly there's not pastels in the prints. IDK though

  • Love Bumgenius, not a fan of HH. I have a HH snap os and a HH velcro organic os. Can't seem to get a tight fit on the legs and the velcro on the organic os scratches my daughter. I have BG 3.0, AIO, and Flip and I love them all. Seem to be better made then HH.
