So today DD had her 12m check-up (a bit late). We just switched offices, so this was our first visit.
She played, talked, and laughed with the nurses. When the doctor came in, she gave him the evil eye and wouldn't even crack the slightest smile. The guy was talking like Donald Duck and letting her play with all his gadgets... she was NOT amused.
So then it came time to listen to her heart... SHE FREAKED OUT!!! Smacked his hand and started crying. He stopped.. showed her the stethoscope, let her play with it, put it on my hand, listened to her stuffed animals heartbeat and tried again. FAIL! She smacked his hand away and started screaming again. Eventually I just held her tight and he did what he had to do.
After, the nurses came in again... she was back to happy, fun baby. They gave her three shots... she just layed there, cried for 5 seconds, and was back to laughing and smiling at them.
Weirdly enough, DD has always loved the doctor's and never had a problem with shots. At her 9 month appointment, with no shots to be had, she started with this fear of the stethoscope... I just can't figure it out!!! All her doctors think it's funny, and have never seen such a thing. Is my kid weird? lol. Anyone else have a similar experience?

That's a great idea!
This is all I could think about leaving the office... hope it helps her the way it did with your DS!!!
One of my dds is a mess at appts.
macchiato - what a fab idea! I am going to have to get hte girls one of those...ava is fine...but the minute we get into the exam room, before we even start taking off clothes or anything Milina starts crying and is hysterical for the entire visit...that may help for sure!
I hope it works for her, too, and that our kids won't be thrown off by the dr's stethoscope not being brightly-colored plastic.
It's now his favorite accessory.
haha - so true! makes me feel better she's not the only one though.
