Low muscle tone

Yesterday was my LO's 10 month apt.  We decided to see another dr in the pratice instead of the Dr she has been seeing.  I really like the new dr 's style.  She doesn't seem as rushed and takes time to answer my questions. When she got into the room she started to exam her.  She told me that she has low muscle tone.  Another concern is once she starts to walk her femer bone with pop out of her joint.  She sent me to go get an xray.  We will get the results in a couple of days.

I could not sleep well last night thinking about what just occured.  I feel that I need to advocate for my LO and try to get her PT.  I feel this is can only be a good thing for her.  The PT can show me excerices that I can do at home.  I just don't know the right way to ask the dr for PT.  Any suggestions?

Re: Low muscle tone

  • I would ask for a referral to a pediatric orthopedist. From there, they could either get you a referral for PT or show you some exercises you can do at home.

ETA: Did the doctor specify where the low tone was? Another option, if your child is delayed with milestones, is to ask your school district's Infant and Toddlers or Birth to Three early intervention program for an assessment. Your LO may be qualified for services through them.

I wouldn't do this though, until you have seen a specialist for the femur/hip dysplasia.
