Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If your LO eats raw veggies...

How many teeth did they have when you started giving them?

DD has 12 teeth - 4 front top, 4 front bottom, and 4 molars.  I just noticed her top molars like two weeks ago but the bottom ones have been working their way up for like a month now.  I'm just wondering if she ready for some raw veggies.  DH thinks it's too soon since her top molars JUST popped out and might be bothering her.  She's been squirmy when we brush them the last week or so.  I'm just excited to start giving her something new!!

  • Depends on the veggie. DD has two teeth but she really likes quartered cherry or grape tomatoes. I think you guys are fine as long as you cut them up decently small and they are not too hard.

  • I think it depends on the baby. Obviously, having teeth helps.

DS started table food/finger food really early and is an efficient eater. He also had a mouthful of teeth by 8 months, so that helped a lot too. He's never gagged on anything and loves to eat...everything and anything.

Give it a shot, start with foods that are harder, like apples and cucumbers, but not as hard as carrots....yet.  Smile

  • That depends. I think softer things like tomatoes and cukes are OK at this age; raw carrots, celery and any other really hard, crunchy veggies are a choking hazard till 3 or 4. (I think 4 IIRC.)

  • DS loves to munch on bell pepper strips, and celery sticks (he mostly just chews on the celery). ?He has 8 teeth (4 front top, 4 front bottom, no molars yet). ?Just watch to make sure they don't choke and I'd say give it a try! ?
  • I don;t know the answer but freeze some celery or carrot sticks and let her gnaw on them when the teething gets tough.
